Confronting the art world head on since the 1980s in works heavily influenced by each era, Kodai Nakahara is perpetually taking aim at the frameworks of art in his “unexpected experiments.” Nakahara’s first show in three years at Gallery Nomart peers back farther than ever before into his past with pictures from his youth, displayed publically for the first time. By exhibiting these works along with drawings from adulthood, the show traces Nakahara’s history as an artist of “pictures.” In these decades-spanning works we can see his many expressions, as well as glimpses of his subtleties of emotion. This is a rare opportunity to discover the foundations of Nakarhara’s art in ways never seen before.
